Birth Support At-A-Glance: Monitrice
What in the world is a monitrice? A monitrice supports you in your home to provide all of the same services as a doula with the addition of monitoring the baby should you want it,vaginal exams during your labor, and maternal vital signs. This service is ideal for people wanting to stay home as long as possible. The monitrice then goes to the hospital or birth center with you and her role will then change into a doula.
A Prenatal Visit
Your support begins with a personalized, in-home prenatal (Memphis and surrounding areas) appointment with your doula. There your doula will answer your questions and ease your concerns and provide assistance in creating your birth plan, personalized to your desires and customized for your specific birthing location.
During labor

Baby’s first feeding Support
Helping you establish your conscious, healthy, and empowered transition into parenting is one of our greatest joys. We will help you and your baby to get latched on and offer education and tips for successful breastfeeding. We will advocate for immediate skin-to-skin for you and your baby.
Postpartum follow-up visit
The transition from birth to postpartum can be an easy transition with our postpartum doulas. Having a nurturing, supportive person alongside you as you care for your newborn and yourself, shows that mothers feel better, are more rested and healthier. They are also empowered about the parenting choices they have made for their family and are provided education and resources as needed through the doula's visit. Our expert doulas can provide necessary referrals if a mother is struggling in a particular area as well. A postpartum doula is a great start to your mother journey with baby at your side.
Placenta Encapsulation
We are more than happy to encapsulate your placenta. Many postpartum moms have touted the positive benefits of using their own placenta to help decrease postpartum depression and increase milk supply. Please note: There are currently no studies proving or disproving these anecdotal testimonies.
